Lake LaVerne Watershed
The watershed, or drainage area, of Lake LaVerne is actually quite small. Only 10.35 acres of land drain directly into the lake. This makes Lake LaVerne a prime location to test new water quality improvement methodologies, such as a VFI.
This project effort will be an excellent first step in building local expertise and leadership in the region surrounding this relatively new water quality enhancement practice. Lakes with similar eutrophic conditions that would benefit from future installations have also been identified in Ames (Moore Memorial Park) and Story County Conservation Board (McFarland Park Lake).
